ALBANY — Karen M. Christie, Jefferson County treasurer, and Anne Converse, an accountant with Jefferson County, graduated in June from a professional development course offered by the New York state Government Finance Officer’s Association.
The Government Finance Institute offers training in accounting, financial reporting, cash management, budgeting and internal control.
“Individuals who pursue and complete the GFI training are demonstrating a proactive commitment to their career in government finance,” said Maura Ryan, the Executive Director of NYS GFOA, in a news release. “The profession of government finance officers has always held that it is essential for government finance officers to be accountable, highly skilled stewards of public money. During fiscally challenging times as we are experiencing now, the need for trained and knowledgeable government finance professionals is even more evident; and GFI is a key part of that process.”
