On public TV, Doheny supports cutting public TV subsidies

In a lengthy interview on Mountain Lake PBS, Republican Matt Doheny, who is running for Congress on Nov. 6 against Democratic Rep. Bill Owens, said that he would defund PBS and National Public Radio. The outlets — like the one he was being interviewed on — receive federal subsidies.

"You are a great journalist. We can make sure you have employment at a lot of other places," he told the host, Thom Hallock. "When you turn on your cable television and you have over 200 channels, there's a lot of ways that PBS will be part of the mainstream economically, in a different way."

Mr. Owens, whose wife works at Mountain Lake PBS, was against cutting federal subsidies to public broadcasting.
