Akwesasne and Canton advanced to the North Country Women’s Summer Soccer League playoff championship game after posting contrasting semi-final round wins on Tuesday.
At Generations Field in Hogansburg, Akwesasne relayed a 2-0 halftime lead into a lopsided 7-0 decision over Massena while Canton held on to beat FC Freeze 1-0 at the SLU campus.
The championship game is slated for Canton High School tonight at 6 p.m.
In the Akwesasne win, Karyss Terrance scored the only goal the home team would need 10 minutes into the game on a lofted shot from just outside the penalty area. Chelsea Clark made it 2-0 by converting on a penalty kick with eight minutes left in the first half after being knocked down from behind while making a dangerous move toward goal from the left wing.
