The Ogdensburg 10U Maples completed a memorable summer by winning the Massena Tournament on Saturday and Sunday.
The team went 24-3 on the summer with two tournament championships and three second place finishes.
Coach John Free felt that the achievements of the team went beyond the won-loss record.
“They became better baseball players each practice and most importantly better teammates and young men,” said Free
“I would like to personally thank all the parents friends and family who supported us all summer long.”
At the Massena Tournament the Maples went 5-1 and avenged their only loss, to the Victory Bulldogs, in the championship game.
Maples 4 Malone 3: Corbin Durham, Zach Rainville and Braeden Free combined for 14 strikeouts and Tristan Lovely’s bases clearing triple in the 5th inning gave the Maples a hard fought win.
Maples 5 Plattsburgh 3: Kelson Hooper, Adam Calton, Cooper Bennett and Braeden Free all stroked two hits and Corbin Durham struck out six to give the Maples a 2-0 start on the weekend.
Victory Bulldogs 6 - Maples 4: The Bulldogs scored three runs in the first inning and three runs in the fifth to seal the win. The Maples were led by Kelson Hooper (double single), Braeden Free (triple, double) and Lucas Bedford(homerun, single).
Maples 11 South Jefferson 0: The trio of Zach Rainville, Corbin Durham and Braeden Free recorded every out via the strikeout sending Ogdensburg into the semi finals.
Maples 5 Massena 0: In a great defensive game for both teams. Adam Calton, Hugh Colburn and Tristan Lovely all singled in the fifth inning propelling this gritty team into the finals.
Maples 6 Victory Bulldogs 5: In a stellar championship game Zac
Zach Rainville delivered a two-run double in the third inning and Braeden Free knocked in two more in the fifth to give Ogdensburg a 6-1 lead.
Victory made a furious comeback to cut the lead to 6-5, but Corbin Durham struck out the last two bulldogs he faced stranding the tying and go-ahead runs on second and third giving the 10u Ogdensburg Maples a well earned and well deserved championship.
