LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Ogdensburg’s Kinnon LaRose and the Albany City Rocks made a major move in the 11th Grade Division I ranks on Friday, recording a 53-35 victory over the Florida Tar Heels in the AAU National Championship at the Kentucky Exposition Center.
Both teams entered Friday’s game with a 2-0 record and the City Rocks came away 3-0 with a berth in the final 32 of the 100-team bracket, the top seed in their division and a bye into a 6:30 p.m. game tonight.
The City Rocks will play the winner of a 1:32 p.m. game looking to advance in quest of a highly coveted berth in Monday’s national championship game.
Swingman LaRose, a senior at Ogdensburg Free Academy who earned first team Class B All-State honors as a junior, continued as an all-purpose leader for the City Rocks. He delivered eight points, eight rebounds, five assists and one steal.
The Rocks took control against the Tar Heels with a 15-2 third quarter run for a 41-17 lead and took a 46-25 margin into the fourth quarter.
LaRose tallied eight points, four rebounds and four assists through three quarters.
