POTSDAM — Thanks to the help of Clarkson University students, alumni, friends, faculty and staff, women’s hockey standout Vanessa Gagnon has reached the final top-10 for the Favorite NCAA Elite 89 Award winner. Clarkson was asking everyone to vote for her in one last push to catapult her to the top.
Voting ended at 8 p.m. Thursday.
The Elite 89 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA’s 89 championships.
Voting last week narrowed the favorites field down to 30 and yesterday the vote tallies were determined for the 10 favorite finalists.
The recipient of the Elite 89 award for the 2014 NCAA Division I Women’s Hockey Championship, Gagnon is a fourth-year MBA graduate student at Clarkson. She finished her undergraduate degree in innovation and entrepreneurship during her junior year with a 3.95 and is currently one of only two students to maintain a perfect 4.0 in Clarkson’s MBA program. She is also pursuing an additional certification in environmental management.
Gagnon was presented with the NCAA Elite 89 Award during the championship banquet on March 20 in Hamden, Conn.
