WATERTOWN — City police charged Christopher S. Kitto, 28, of 22390 Reeves Road, Apt. 1204, with third- and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon after he was stopped Saturday afternoon on Franklin Street.
Police said Mr. Kitto was seen putting a Hi-Point Firearms Model 995 9-millimeter rifle into a red duffle bag. Police described the rifle as an assault weapon due to its semi-automatic firing, detachable magazine and pistol grip.
The fourth-degree charge, police said, is a result of Mr. Kitto’s previous conviction for third-degree burglary in January 2010.
Charged at 2:23 p.m. on the 200 block of Franklin Street, Mr. Kitto was held at the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building pending an appearance in City Court.
