POTSDAM — Former Clarkson University women’s hockey player Vanessa Gagnon has been named as one of the 446 nominees for the NCAA Woman of the Year Award.
The award goes to athletes who distinguished themselves throughout their careers in academics, athletics, service and leadership and contains athletes from all three divisions.
Gagnon, a member of Clarkson’s national championship team, was named an Academic All-American, won the Sarah Devens Award and was named ECAC Hockey’s Mandi Schwartz Student-Athlete of the Year. She scored 18 goals, including five game-winners, and added 15 assists and had a plus-43 rating.
Gagnon, who graduated this spring, had a 4.0 grade-point average and is pursuing a master’s degree in business administration.
The award will trim down to nine finalists in September and be awarded in Indianapolis on Oct. 19.
