WATERTOWN Jefferson County has responded to an Equal Employment Opportunity Commission complaint lodged against management at the dispatch center by an emergency dispatcher who resigned last week, citing stress from lack of manpower and excessive overtime.
County attorney David J. Paulsen said the county received notice of an EEOC complaint from Annette M. Docteur and submitted its response to the complaint last week. He said the county is waiting for the EEOC to conduct an investigation, after which the EEOC may convene a hearing or issue a notice-of-right-to-sue, which gives a complainant permission to file a lawsuit.
Mrs. Docteur, who began working at the dispatch center in 2006, submitted her letter of resignation May 9 after, she said, management refused to make reasonable accommodations for a medical condition brought on by the stressful working environment.
Mr. Paulsen declined to comment on the specifics of Mrs. Docteurs complaint. He said that in his time with the county, the EEOC has never convened a hearing involving the county.
