THERESA More than 50 firefighters from several fire departments responded to a house fire on County Route 46 early Wednesday.
The fire was first reported at 5:34 a.m. by a neighbor, and two residents were able to make it out of the house safely, said Jefferson County Fire and Emergency Management Director Joseph D. Plummer.
Theresa Fire Chief Mark S. Savage said the building sustained heavy smoke and water damage and was deemed a total loss.
The 36614 County Route 46 property owned by Joan M. Trickey, according to county property records was not insured. Karen Trickey and another man were inside the building at the time of the fire, the fire department said.
Fire crews from seven departments were at the scene battling the blaze Wednesday morning and were able to put the fire out by 7:30 a.m., Chief Savage said.
Mr. Savage said residents of the two-story home initially suspected that the fire had started from a wood stove malfunction, but officials believe it was electrical in nature.
The investigation to determine the exact cause is ongoing.
