LOWVILLE — Steven C. Ielfield, 28, of 5226 Ebbly Road, was charged with second-degree assault, a class D felony, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and endangering the welfare of a child after state police said he cut his wife with a box cutter.

At 9:22 a.m. Tuesday, Mr. Ielfield was engaged in an altercation with his wife, who was not identified, when he pulled a box cutter from his pants and cut the woman with it, police said. She suffered minor cuts.

During the dispute, Mr. Ielfield pushed his wife, who fell into their child, knocking the child down, police said.

He was arrested at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the state police barracks in Lowville. He was arraigned in Town Court and released on $500 cash bail.
