GOUVERNEUR The site plan for a proposed community center at Riverview Park will be reviewed by town and St. Lawrence County planning boards.
Engineering and design of the center has not been awarded yet by the Town Council, but a site plan and state environmental quality review was requested through the North Country Regional Economic Development Council, which awarded the project with a $400,000 grant. The village plans to contribute $600,000 toward the center, using revolving loan funds that were repaid.
The town is expected to name its choice of an engineer at its May meeting.
Code Enforcement Officer Michael J. McQuade said he had no issues with the 6,000-square-foot building proposal. Parking is adequate and may be expanded, he said.
The town Planning Board will review the site plan at 7 p.m. May 12 in the municipal building. The county Planning Board will also consider the site plan at 7 p.m. Thursday. The county review is necessary because of the buildings proximity to Route 58.
The building will be similar to one built as a senior and community center in Star Lake, with offices, a kitchen and a meeting space.
The town and the village must still work out an arrangement for the future maintenance of the building.
