WATERTOWN — Demolition of the former Mercy Hospital complex will begin at 12:30 p.m. Monday with a ceremony that will include a visit from Lt. Gov. Robert J. Duffy.

COR Development Co., a Fayetteville company, took control of the property last April intending to tear down the present structure on the corner of Stone, Massey and Sherman streets. The plan calls for new rental housing and office and retail space.

The same company is developing the Towne Center shopping complex and the Beaver Meadow Apartments on outer Arsenal Street. The Mercy complex project is funded in part by a $2.1 million state grant from the Regional Economic Development Council.
