The Jefferson County Department of Social Services is now accepting recreation scholarship applications for local youths.
According to a news release, the scholarships are for children and youths who do not have the opportunity to participate in recreational, social or cultural events, and who are at risk for not developing to their fullest potential.
The state Office of Children and Family Services provides funding for such scholarships, which may include money for sports-league fees, karate or adventure-program fees, computer camps, dance, art or music lessons. Scholarships up to $400 will be awarded.
To nominate a youth, call James Schell at 785-3393 for application information.
