CANTON - While St. Lawrence University senior forward Greg Carey was part of some big upsets during his collegiate career, it wasn’t to be in the 2014 Hobey Baker Award voting as Carey, and fellow Hobey Hat Trick finalist Nic Dowd of St. Cloud State finished behind Boston College forward Johnny Gaudreau, the front-runner for the award through most of the last two months of the season.

Friday did include some good news for Carey, the first Saint player to be part of the Hobey Hat Trick and the first Saint to earn back-to-back Hobey Baker finalist honors. He was named a first-team All America by the American Hockey Coaches Association, becoming All America for the second straight year and the seventh two-time All America in program history and first since 1988.

The ECAC co-Player of the Year, he was named to the Senior CLASS Award All America first team, was a College Hockey News All Star and was back-to-back ECAC league and overall scoring champion. He went from leading the nation in goal scoring as a junior to being the leader in assists at the end of the regular season as a senior. He will finish third in the overall scoring race this season, led by Gaudreau’s 80 points.

Carey, who signed with the Phoenix Coyotes at the end of the recently completed season, is the first player in Saint program history to lead the team in scoring in each of his four seasons and finished with 84 goals, 101 assists and 185 career points, tying for second on the all-time career point list.
