POTSDAM — The digging slowed down considerably this weekend at 733 May Road, where state police investigators are searching for a potential second body buried next to a mobile home in the town of Stockholm.

State police investigators found human remains in a box lined with concrete that they dug up Friday, but the digging continues as they search for another body.

Senior Investigator Timothy J. Peets said the snow Saturday and subzero temperatures at night made it difficult for them even to get through the ground over the weekend.

“Fighting the elements has slowed us down a bit,” he said Sunday. “Mother Nature has a way of winning these battles sometimes, but we’ll stay until we get it done.”

Investigator Peets said police are waiting until the search for the second body believed to be on the property concludes before they send one or both for autopsies.

State police began digging at the property Thursday morning. Although it is too early to tell, the body found may be that of Betty Babcock or her husband, Alvin, the couple in their 80s believed to be have been buried on the site of the mobile home occupied by Robert Bartlett.

No charges or arrests have been made in the ongoing investigation.
