GOUVERNEUR - Village police officer Steven M. Young defended himself Friday against administrative charges filed against him by the village for the inappropriate use of gasoline.
The village suspended Mr. Young, first with pay and then without, claiming he used gasoline for personal use that was intended for police vehicles.
Mr. Youngs attorney, Michael F. Young, said his client did nothing wrong, because he was allowed to use gasoline as the chief of the Gouverneur Volunteer Fire Department.
The problem is the village has lost track of its keys for the gas tank, he said.
Quite frankly this is a witch hunt. They dont know when anything was used and what was used, he said. My client had no reason to steal gas, because he was allowed to take as much gas as he needed.
Michael Young also objected to Marlinda L. LaValley serving as the hearing officer because of the relationship Gouverneur Hospital has with the village. He also objected to a lack of specificity in the villages case on the perjury allegedly committed by Steven Young.
