RENSSELAER FALLS — A Brier Hill man was arrested Thursday for allegedly stealing nearly everything but the kitchen sink from his former Rensselaer Falls apartment building.

State police charged Scott C. Simmons, 25, of 660 Sand St., with third-degree criminal mischief and fourth-degree grand larceny, both felonies, and misdemeanor abandonment of a disabled animal.

The arrest comes following a March 4 compliant filed by Mr. Simmons’s former landlord, Christian Nordberg, that a number of appliances and plumbing had been stolen from his building at 557 Front St.

Mr. Nordberg told detectives from the state police Bureau of Criminal Investigation that he had “multiple issues” with Mr. Simmons as a tenant prior to his vacating the residence, and on March 3, when he went to inspect the building, he found the washer, dryer, drapes, refrigerator and a Lopi woodstove were all missing.

Investigators said Mr. Nordberg went back to the building on Tuesday and found all the copper plumbing from basement was gone, as well as a hot water heater, a water pump, an electric chain saw and a vacuum.

Additionally, investigators said Mr. Simmons had a mixed-breed pit bull and boxer puppy which he could not care for because he didn’t have running water. State police alleged Mr. Simmons left the dog at the residence tied up to the porch in subzero temperatures. The puppy has since been given a new home.

Mr. Simmons was issued appearance tickets for Canton Town Court.
