CLAYTON — The text message that irked Thousand Islands Central parents and staff Thursday was not an actual school shooting plan, but a “Hunger Games” type fiction, according to state police.

Troopers Wednesday night took a Thousand Islands student to Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown, after receiving a complaint that the 14-year-old boy had made a threat against a local school.

“During further interviews with the student who sent the text, he more clearly explained that the text was formed to be more of a ‘Hunger Games’ type story — a story that takes place in a dystopian post-apocalyptic future nation, where boys and girls between the ages of 12 and 18 must take part in an annual televised event in which they are required to fight to the death, until only one remains — and not a school shooting plan,” Detective Daniel G. Tordy said in a news release.

No arrests will be made and the case has been closed.
