BARNES CORNERS — Gary R. Stinson, Barnes Corners Sno-Pals snowmobile club and Snirt Run organizer, is awaiting the delivery of a rider on his club’s insurance policy that will enable the Snirt Run to continue for the 11th year, set for April 12.

“I was assured a couple days ago that we have a rider,” Mr. Stinson said in a phone interview Tuesday.

He reported receiving an email from Anthony “Butch” Franklin, the Franklin-Case Agency LLC agent who provides the shared policy for 240 clubs in the New York State Snowmobile Association, Sunday indicating a hard copy of the rider would be delivered Tuesday, at the latest.

The rider will provide extra protection beyond the provisions contained in the shared policy, which covers snowmobile trails and operators using the trails.

Jim Rolf, NYSSA trails coordinator, said he had been assured the insurance rider is an agreement between the Sno-Pals club and Franklin-Case Agency.

In addition to adequate insurance, a resolution passed by Lewis County legislators requires Mr. Stinson to produce new route maps before legislators will approve county roads to be opened for the event.

“We’re still working on them,” said Jacqueline L. Mahoney, Lewis County recreational trails coordinator.

One portion of the expected route falls within the town of Lowville. Board members in the town have reserved a decision on opening Bardo Road until town attorney Raymond A. Meier has reviewed the rider.

Plans for improved signs, fencing and volunteers must also be in place before legislators will approve opening the road.

That vote is expected to take place Monday, April 1.

In the meantime, Mr. Stinson is continuing to move forward with requirements and meeting with law enforcement to keep all parties up to date on his progress.
