Hypnotist Donald G. Swan will take the stage at the Ogdensburg Elks Club March 21 for a night of fun in order to raise money for Ogdensburg Free Academy’s Project Graduation. Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased from members of the OFA Class of 2014 or at the door.

Mr. Swan, who operates as Don Swan Comedy Hypnotist, said he hopes to have a fun time with the audience.

“We do about an hour, hour and a half show,” he said. “It’s quite entertaining.”

Before the show Mr. Swan gives an introduction to hypnosis in order to get everyone in the right mindset.

As a former skeptic himself, Mr. Swan said he wants to make sure people who volunteer to be hypnotized are open minded.

“With hypnosis if you don’t believe, if you don’t want it to happen, it’s not going to happen,” Mr. Swan said. “With hypnosis you have to will it and you have to want it to happen.”

The first time Mr. Swan encountered hypnosis was a year ago on a cruise, he said, and since then he has learned how to do it himself.

Going under the influence of a hypnotist is “very restful,” Mr. Swan said, noting that some people come out feeling like they just got eight hours of sleep.

At the Elks Club Mr. Swan said he plans on having a family-friendly show.

“I usually get about 20 people to come up on stage,” he said.

Arlene L. Kiah, chair of this year’s Project Graduation party, said, “We’re just hoping to have a good time. Come and have some fun.”

In addition to the show there will be 50-50 tickets on sale. All proceeds will go to Project Graduation, a drug- and alcohol-free party held at the school on the night of graduation.
