CICERO — Daniel Kaigler scored 19 points to lead Section 3’s Bishop Ludden to a 71-50 win over Massena in a state Class A boys basketball first-round game Wednesday night at Cicero-North Syracuse High School.

The Red Raiders (16-6) stayed close in the first half and trailed just 33-27 before Bishop Ludden hit a 3-point basket at the halftime buzzer to go up by nine.

The Gaelic Knights (20-2) put the game away with a 20-7 spurt in the third quarter.

Ben Hackett scored 16 points and Zach Walser tossed in 14 for Bishop Ludden. Kevin Sierotnik scored 13 for the Gaelic Knights.

Massena was led by a 12-point game from Xavier Viskovich. Rhoades Tarbell and Zevon Viskovich each tallied 11 points for the Red Raiders.

In action on Tuesday Seton Catholic trimmed Tupper Lake 60-57 while in girls action Section 2’s Tamarac pulled awayfrom Canton in Class B and Northern Adirondack dropped St. Lawrence Central in Class C.

Seton Catholic 60, Tupper Lake 57: At SUNY Potsdam, Kaden Baugh threw up a 25 foot prayer at the buzzer to lift the 17-3 Knights into the Elite 8 of Class C at the buzzer. Seton Catholic will play Hoosic Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday at SUNY Plattsburgh.

Baugh finished with a game high 25 points. Chris Kustos added 14 while Keagan Briggs tallied 10 as the Knights led 25-18 at half and fought off a Lumberjack (14-8) comeback in the second half.

Mitch Keniston scored 22 points for Tupper Lake. Anson Gagnier added 14 and Morgan Stevens delivered 12. Roger Delair posted seven.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Tamarac 65 - Canton 52: Section 2’s Tamarac went on a 22-13 run in the fourth quarter to pull away and eliminate the Canton Golden Bears (16-6) in a Class B first-round game at Troy High School, 65-52.

Tamarac (21-2) led 43-39 through three quarters.

Jenna Erickson led the Bengals with a 32-point game. Adiya Henderson scored 19 points and Alex Mitchell added 11 for Tamarac.

Tori Daley led Canton with 17 points and Kali Frank tossed in 11. Rachel Sanderson added eight more.

NAC 42, SLC 25: The Larries (13-9) led 8-3 after one and fell behind 21-18 at halftime, NAC (15-6) outscored St. Lawrence 21-7 the rest of the game.

Magan Magee scored 18 points for NAC while Jillian Scott added 13.

Lindsey Thayer scored nine points for SLC.
