Snow Lover’s Trivia: Windham Mountain offers great Catskill experience

Windham Mountain Ski Resort, with its stellar views, is another major ski area nestled in the beautiful Catskill Mountains.

It offers multiple restaurants and lounges, a summer and winter Adventure Park, monthly events and activities, slopeside homes, condos, hotels and a golf course. With the recent addition of Windham Country Club, Windham is now a four-season destination with attractions that appeal to residents and visitors alike.

In warmer months adventurers hit Windham’s hiking and mountain biking or get an adrenaline rush at the Summer Adventure Park. Summit weddings take place and guests celebrate on chairlifts. Events are plentiful in the summer and fall; such as, the UCI World Cup Bike Race, Endless Winter Rail Jam and the Tour of the Catskills Bike Race.

We, as a family, visited Windham last weekend. The ski area is sized such that we skied two days and never hit all the trails. However we repeated some runs because our 6 yr old son, Ethan, loved the Boarder Cross, and the trails with jumps and bumps. For those who like to cruise, there is plenty of wide-open, groomed terrain for all levels.

Rozlynn, our 2 yr old, was watched at Windham’s Children’s Learning Center. The center offers care for the very young, ages 2–7. Children’s ski lessons can be included. Every week the center decorates the space around a different theme. It’s a lot of fun for kids and makes things festive. This past weekend was fashioned in honor of Dr. Seuss’ 100th Birthday.

After Skiing Sunday we meandered over to the Windham Mountain Adventure Park. It has eight lanes of exhilarating snow tubing, 2 zip lines, 120’-60’ skating rink, kids snowmobiles, and a cozy lodge. We tubed solo or tied together, barreling straight down the hill or in a crazy spin. Then we took the easy ride up the rope tow. Our son, Ethan, was raring to go. Constantly we were yelling to him, “Hey, wait for us!”

One mile from the slopes within the quaint town of Windham, the Winwood Inn and Condos provided us a weekend stay of relaxation and comfort. Our suite included a private bath, bedroom, and a spacious kitchenette, dining and living room area. Amenities at the complex include Wi-Fi, a game room, movie theatre, and a fitness center.

At the Winwood Inn and Condos we dinned onsite at the popular Rock’n Mexicana. It features a full service restaurant and bar, known for its 35 tequilas and margaritas that will knock your sombrero off. On the menu, there are tacos and enchiladas, and creative fare from north and south of the border.

Windham has various skier groups, like what you find at any major ski resort. The 3500 CLUB offers seasonal lockers, easy mountain access and member benefits. Like putting in your boat in a marina, you arrive, take advantage of special parking, and your gear awaits. And if you travel and have the means you can be one of many that owns a second home at Windham, be it a condo or a stellar ski house. Enjoy those benefits.

Can I say more? There is much to be said about Windham Mountain Ski Resort.
