SACKETS HARBOR — A nonprofit music outreach center that will host free guitar classes for children and young adults is being planned at Madison Barracks.

Organizers are seeking donated guitars, amplifiers and accessories to launch classes with volunteer instructors at the center this spring. Old guitars and other musical instruments that may have been stored in attics by those who once played, for example, could be donated to the center, which has applied to become a 501c3 organization so it can collect tax-exempt donations.

Classes will be determined by the number of students enrolled, number of donated instruments available and volunteers who are willing to serve as instructors. Those who are interested in lending a hand as volunteer instructors include Paul J. Buell, music teacher at Sackets Harbor High School, Mark Cloutier of the Double Barrel Blues Band, and Joseph and Albert Bouchard of the international touring band Blue Coupe.

Those interested in donating a guitar or other musical instrument can contact Michael W. Campbell, Madison Barracks property manager, at 646-3374 or mcampbell@madisonbarracks.com.
