CHAUMONTJefferson County sheriffs deputies charged a Cape Vincent man Sunday morning with driving while intoxicated and traffic infractions following a traffic stop on Route 12E in the town of Lyme.
Jeffrey J. Shorkey, 34, of 33728 Route 12E, was stopped at 2:57 a.m. after deputies allegedly observed him swerving and driving across a hazard marking. He allegedly was found with a glass mug of beer in the cup holder of his 2006 Chevrolet van and admitted to having four drinks.
He was taken to the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building, Watertown, where his blood alcohol content was discovered to be 0.14 percent. Under state law, a BAC of 0.08 percent or more constitutes proof of intoxication.
