CANTON Brides, their mothers and maids of honor browsed the Best Western University Inn, 90 E. Main St., during the hotels annual bridal show Sunday.
From gowns and bridesmaid dresses to cakes, photographers and disc jockeys, local brides were able to meet and plan with 16 vendors from all over the north country who could potentially have a big impact on their big day.
Its kind of a community service that we like to do for brides in the area and folks who are getting married, Leland F. Farnsworth, director of catering at the Best Western, said. In the past we used to have it in January, but last year was the first time we tried it in February. It worked out well for us so we decided to do that again this year and piggy-back off of the Valentines Day thing.
Paul Smiths College conference and events sales manager Bryan R. Mallette had a booth set up, showing off the campus as a wedding venue.
We turn campus into a conference and events center in the summer, he said. We run campus in the summer largely as a hotel.
Mr. Mallette said the campus hosts wedding ceremonies and receptions and offers lodging for the guests as well.
Michael A. Doe, owner of NNY Photobooths, had one of his photo booths, along with several different props for it, set up in the hotel.
Its one of those new ideas to have a photo booth at your wedding, he said. We just add to the day.
Mr. Doe said that wedding guests who use the booths would get a photo strip and a second one would print for the bride and groom.
Instead of the cameras that dont ever work, people enjoy having a photo booth because it just adds to the excitement, he said.
The Carol Lee Shoppe, Potsdam, and Sposa Bella, Canton, were the two bridal gown shops featured at the show.
We bring a little bit of everything that represents the store, Julie A. Smith, owner of the Carol Lee Shoppe, said. Weve had a great start of the year. The bridal shows have been very successful advertising for us.
Jill M. Nevill, Massena, and Shannon R. Ayrassian, Canton, are distributors for the Florida company It Works.
Their booth featured skin products, body wraps and dietary supplements.
We have products that help to detoxify you, firm your skin, eliminate facial lines and make you feel better inside and out, Ms. Ayrassian said. Everything is all natural and we have things for anti-stress as well.
