UNLAWFUL IMPRISONMENT - MASSENA - Village police charged Zachary M. Pitts. 209, of 224 Center St., Massena, with second-degree harassment, unlawful imprisonment, fourth-degree criminal mischief and criminal obstruction of breathing at 5:02 a.m. Monday following an investigation into a domestic dispute reported approximately an hour earlier.

Pitts was arraigned later Monday morning by Massena Village Justice Eric J. Gustafson and sent to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility with bail set at $750 cash.

The incident reportedly occurred at 6 Cornell Ave., where Candis Phillips was staying with her ex-boyfriend’s cousin. Ms. Lapoint reportedly left the residence, and Pitts paid a visit. He reportedly became upset when Ms. Phillips received a phone call from a friend.

Court documents indicate Pitts started yelling at Phillips and threw her purse and then threw a knife at her when she was lying on a bed. The knife reportedly landed on the pillow next to her head.

Pitts allegedly repeatedly blocked her efforts to leave the residence and pushed her over boxes into a television during an altercation that last for approximately 15 minutes. During that physical confrontation, he reportedly punched her twice on the right side of her face and slapped her on the left side of her face, shoved her onto the couch and then slammed her into the coffee table when she attempted to get back off the couch. He had also covered her mouth and nose earlier in the argument and broke her cell phone, according to court documents.

Phillips complained of pain to her face and back.
