College hockey: Quinnipiac catches Clarkson

POTSDAM — Amanda Colin and Shiann Darkangelo scored goals in the first 3 minutes, 42 seconds of the third period to help the Quinnipiac women’s hockey team salvage a 3-3 tie with Clarkson in an ECAC game Friday night at Cheel Arena.

Clarkson (21-4-4 overall, 12-2-3 conference) held a 3-1 lead after two goals in the second period from Carly Mercer, who also assisted on a first-period goal from Brittany Styner.

Meghan Turner also scored for Quinnipiac (17-4-8, 8-3-6).

PRINCETON 2, ST. LAWRENCE 1

Rose Alleva scored with 48 seconds left to lead the Tigers (12-9-3, 8-7-2) past the Saints in an ECAC Hockey game at Appleton Arena.

Denna Laing scored in the first period for Princeton. Rylee Smith also scored in the opening period for the Saints (9-16-3, 8-6-3).

SUNY POTSDAM 3, BUFFALO STATE 2

Jessica Silveira scored one goal and assisted on another as the Bears (10-7-3, 6-4-3) defeated the Bengals in a SUNYAC game in Buffalo.

Amanda Peterson and Izzy Fayerman also scored for SUNY Potsdam.

Kara Goodwin and Nikki Kirchberger scored for the Bengals (2-18, 2-11).

MEN’S HOCKEY

SUNY CANTON 3, ASSUMPTION 2

A goal from Vance Bridgman with 26 seconds left in the game led SUNY Canton (4-14-2) past Assumption College in a nonconference game in Worcester, Mass.

Dave Schneider and Kristian Leach also scored for SUNY Canton.

Mike Heyde scored both goals for Assumption (3-16-2).

SUNY POTSDAM 1, BUFFALO STATE 1 (OT)

Former Thousand Islands standout Jon Hall made 32 saves to help the Bears (7-12-1, 7-2-1) claim a tie with the Bengals in a SUNYAC game in Potsdam.

Billy Pascali scored the game-tying goal for SUNY Potsdam during a power play at 15:24 of the second period.

Former Salmon River player Shane Avery scored for the Bengals (9-8-4, 6-3-3) at 8:27 of the first period, with former St. Lawrence Central player Taylor McGraw earning an assist.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

CLARKSON 84, RENSSELAER 66

John Coleman scored 24 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead the Golden Knights (11-8, 5-5) past the Engineers in a Liberty League game in Potsdam.

Marques Charlton scored 23 points, Michael Hayduk 11 and Felix Abongo 10 for Clarkson.

Nick Keefe led RPI (7-13, 5-6) with 14 points.

UNION 77, ST. LAWRENCE 75 (OT)

The Dutchmen (6-10, 3-5) outscored the Saints 14-12 in overtime to pick up a Liberty League win in Canton.

William Hython led Union with 28 points and 11 rebounds. Kevin Weckworth scored 14 points and Deshon Burgess tossed in 12 for Union. Ryan Whelpley added 11.

Kyle Edwards led the Saints (6-12, 2-7) with 21 points. Kyle Kobis and Brady Condlin each scored 15 for SLU.

SUNY GENESEO 78, SUNY POTSDAM 61

Connor Fedge paced the Blue Knights (15-3, 9-2) with 19 points in a win over the Bears in a SUNYAC game in Geneseo.

Andy Drescher scored 16 points and Gordon Lyons added 12 for SUNY Geneseo.

Rob Duquette led the Bears (3-16, 1-11) with 16 points with Tom Graf tallying 11.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

ST. LAWRENCE 69, UNION 54

Cassie St. Hilaire scored 19 points as St. Lawrence (12-6, 8-1) defeated Union in a Liberty League game in Canton.

Kara McDuffee scored 15 points with six assists and Kelly Legg added 13 points and 11 rebounds for St. Lawrence University.

Kate Thompson led Union (11-6, 3-5) with 22 points.

RENSSELAER 60, CLARKSON 52

Ashley Clough scored 12 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the Engineers (6-14, 4-7) past the Golden Knights in a Liberty League game in Potsdam.

Courtney Reynolds and Zysnia Osepa each scored 13 points for RPI. Brooke Butkovsky led Clarkson (8-10, 3-7) with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

SUNY GENESEO 79, SUNY POTSDAM 64

The Blue Knights (13-5, 7-4) used a 46-26 second half to defeat the Bears in a SUNYAC game in Geneseo. SUNY Potsdam (4-15, 2-10) held a 38-33 lead at the break.

Allison McKenna scored 20 points for SUNY Geneseo. Biz Reinhardt and Katie Durant each scored 14.

Jessica Kouzan led the Bears with a 23-point game. Bailey Weigel scored 14 points and Hannah Kmiecinski added 11.
