Massena boys battle back to gain tournament tie with Beekmantown

MASSENA - The Massena Central boys hockey team twice rallied to gain a 3-3 overtime tie with Beekmantown on Friday in the first round of their late-season tournament at the Massena Arena.

The other game saw Pelham score four unanswered goals in the third period in posting a 6-3 won over Salmon River.

Salmon River and Beekmantown will square off in the second round today at noon while the Raiders take on Pelham starting at 2:30 p.m.

Massena 3, Beekmantown 3: The Eagles built a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals by Brendon Davison 2:13 into the game and Nathan Foster at the 8:41 mark.

The Raiders battled back to tie the game in the second period. Patrick Manning made it 2-1 at the 10:38 mark assisted by Wyatt Wilmshurst and JP Chauvin. Tyler Young tied the game just under two minutes later assisted by Josh Blair.

The Eagles regained the lead with a power play goal by Davison at 7:11 of the third period before Wilmshurst knotted the score at 3-3 when he finished off a play set up by Jordan Robert and Manning with 3:46 left in regulation.

Connor Paquin made 16 saves working the Massena crease for the win while Dustin Plumadore stopped 30 shots for Beekmantown.

In other high school boys hockey action on Friday, Norwood-Norfolk clinched sole possession of the NAC Division II regular season title with an 8-2 win at Tupper Lake while Potsdam Central’s non-league game on the road against Cicero=North Syracuse was postponed to this afternoon.
