CANTON – St. Lawrence County sheriffs deputies on Thursday charged James O. Upshur, 48, an inmate at the St. Lawrence County jail, and formerly of 59½ Maple St., Massena, with felony second-degree assault.
Mr. Upshur is currently being held on a third-degree burglary charge related to an Oct. 20 burglary at 7 Clary St., Massena. He is awaiting sentencing.
Deputies said Mr. Upshur struck fellow inmate Bruce House at the facility, resulting in Mr. House receiving a black eye, swollen cheek and scrapes and bruises on his face.
Mr. Upshur was arraigned in Town Court and sent back to county jail, where he is being held without bail.
