MASSENA A Massena woman charged with shoplifting $1,341 worth of merchandise from the Massena Walmart was sentenced to serve 180 days in St. Lawrence County jail, Canton, after pleading guilty to a reduced count.
Massena Village Justice Eric J. Gustafson also ordered Courtney E. Lashomb, 23, of 82 Cook St., to pay a $205 surcharge and a $50 fee to submit her DNA sample to the state database for the petit larceny conviction.
Village police charged Ms. Lashomb with fourth-degree grand larceny on Jan. 2 following an investigation into the Dec. 2 shoplifting incident.
Police had also charged Jamie L. Northrup, 36, of 351 East Orvis St., Massena, in connection with that incident. Her case is pending.
A store loss prevention associate told police that Ms. Northrup placed two Straight Talk Samsung Galaxy II cell phones, each valued at $399; a variety of groceries and laundry supplies, from laundry soap and bleach to steak, potatoes and ice cream; and clothing items including lingerie in a shopping cart and then walked past the last point of sale without paying for the items. She was assisted in the effort by Ms. Lashomb, according to court documents.
