ALBANY — The state has released a recreation management plan to increase public access to nearly 19,000 acres of conservation easement land in the Adirondacks formerly owned by International Paper.

The plan for the northern Adirondack land known as the Kushaqua Tract includes upgrading and opening access to more than 38 miles of roads for motorized and nonmotorized use, including all-terrain vehicles, cars and trucks.

The plan also would construct or upgrade seven nonmotorized trails, construct five designated parking lots, create 12 campsites and install a handicapped-accessible fishing dock.

The land is in the south-central Franklin County towns of Brighton and Franklin.

A public meeting on the plan is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Feb. 5 at Paul Smith’s College. The document can be viewed online at http://wdt.me/YgUs3y.
