LOWVILLE — After five years of fundraising, Lewis County Hospital Foundation has raised $90,000 toward its dialysis project. Come Feb. 8, the foundation will look to raise more with the hospital’s fifth annual bowling event.

“Over the past four years, the Dialysis Bowl-A-Thon has raised more than $15,000,” JoAnne Rhubart, foundation executive director, said in a press release.

The Bowl-A-Thon will be held over the course of two Saturdays — Feb. 8 and 15 — at Lewis Lanes, 7828 state Route 26. The event is open to co-ed, men, women and children teams and consists of three games — nine-, eight- and seven-pin no-tap. Games will run in two shifts both days, starting at 1 and 4 p.m. Registration is $15 and includes shoes and three games.

“People are very passionate about this and have been very generous in donating to this fund,” said Ms. Rhubart.

The idea of a dialysis wing at the hospital was initially presented to county legislators in 2005 by then-Martinsburg resident Edward Ingersoll. He presented a petition with more than 2,000 signatures requesting the renal treatment facility.

Funds raised at the Bowl-A-Thon will go toward the $1.9 million project’s remaining balance of roughly $60,000.

In addition to bowling, there will be a lottery board, 50/50 raffle and silent auction. Donations will be accepted for the dialysis fund.

Additional information may be requested by calling Ms. Rhubart at 376-5110, or Bowl-A-Thon chair member Colleen West at 376-3967. Registration forms are available at the Hospital Foundation office, 7785 N. State St.
