CANTON — A Canton man was arraigned after an indictment was unsealed Tuesday in St. Lawrence County Court after he was picked up on a bench warrant by county Drug Task Force members Friday in Louisville.

Allen J. Oshier, 30, of 6069 Route 11, pleaded not guilty to third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, both class B felonies.

Oshier also pleaded not guilty to an additional charge of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance from an October arrest in Louisville.

According to defense attorney Bradford C. Riendeau, who was assigned by St. Lawrence County Judge Jerome J. Richards to represent Oshier, all of the charges stem from an Oct. 9 arrest following a traffic stop on Route 36 in the town of Louisville where a sheriff’s department K-9 unit and deputies said a subsequent free-air sniff of the vehicle’s exterior led to the discovery of 21 packets of heroin.

Oshier was arrested by the St. Lawrence County Drug Task Force on Oct. 9 along with Christopher J. Sharp, 23, of 1 Ann St., Norfolk; Christopher A. Lopez, 23, Union City, N.J., and Christopher J. Hughes, 32, of 81 Grantville Road, Norfolk.

Following his arrest Friday, Oshier was charged Saturday by St. Lawrence County sheriff’s deputies with criminal possession of a hypodermic needle. Deputies said that when Oshier was arrested in Louisville on a County Court bench warrant, deputies found a hypodermic needle in his back pocket.

Oshier was returned to St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility, where he is being held without bail.
