CANTON The St. Lawrence County Department of Social Services has been awarded a grant of $30,000 from the state Office of Children and Family Services to improve Child Protective Services staffing with the purchase of iPads equipped with Wi-Fi.
The money also will pay for a wireless service plan.
The iPads will help CPS field workers cut caseloads, Department of Social Services Deputy Commissioner S. Diane Wilby said.
The average caseload per CPS worker in St. Lawrence County is 15, compared with a state goal of 12 cases.
The iPads will allow CPS workers access to all case information when in the field and will help on-call caseworkers with information on open cases. The mobile devices also will allow CPS workers to enter case notes remotely.
Theyll be able to close their cases sooner, Ms. Wilby said.
