FORT DRUM — The 2nd Brigade Combat Team welcomed its new commander at a ceremony on post Tuesday.

Col. David S. Doyle will now lead the brigade, taking over for Col. Dennis S. Sullivan.

Before arriving on post, Col. Doyle last served as the director of operations for NATO Special Operations Command in Kabul, Afghanistan. He also led the 2nd Battalion, 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment during deployments to Haiti and Iraq.

The assignment to post is the first for the new commander.

Col. Doyle told attendees at the ceremony that he was honored to join the brigade, according to a public affairs account of the ceremony.

For Col. Sullivan, his departure marks the end of an approximately 13-year run on post starting in 2001. He held several roles at many levels within the 10th Mountain Division, including time as division chief of plans in Kosovo and leadership roles in the 1st Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment and 2nd Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team. He took charge of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team in April 2011.

Among the highlights of his time as commander was the brigade’s recent nine-month deployment to Afghanistan, where it served in an advise-and-assist role for Afghan security forces.

He leaves the post to attend the Naval War College in Newport, R.I.
