An 18-year-old was taken to Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center early Sunday after being ejected from his Ford Expedition on County Route 812 between Ogdensburg and Heuvelton.
State police said Andrew W. Mason Jr., 1126 Washington St., was headed south on Route 812 when he was spotted by a patrol driving 63 mph in a 45 mph zone.
When police attempted to stop him, Mr. Mason didnt comply and increased his speed to approximately 90 mph, police said.
They said he then started to swerve as he lost control of the vehicle and it exited the right shoulder of the road.
According to police, the vehicle rolled several times before coming to a stop in a field, where police found Mr. Mason ejected from the vehicle and lying on his back.
Mr. Mason was bleeding from his face and abdomen when Ogdensburg Volunteer Rescue Squad took him to Claxton-Hepburn. He was later transferred to Upstate Medical Center, Syracuse, where he is listed in critical condition.
The vehicle was totaled.
