WEST CARTHAGE — Water Superintendent Ernest L. Prievo told the Carthage-West Carthage Utility Management Board meeting that the water filtration plant is running efficiently.

Mr. Prievo said the annual quality report showed 16 million gallons less water usage than the previous year.

He attributes the decrease in part to the removal of the Champion Water District 4, which covers Cole and Sayre roads and parts of Martin Street, from the West Carthage line. Another factor was detecting and repairing leaks in residential, commercial and main lines. He also pointed out as water and sewer rates increase, people tend to conserve more.

Mr. Prievo said the reduced water usage also means there is less energy used to pump the water and fewer chemicals used to treat the water.
