OGDENSBURG St. Lawrence County sheriffs Drug Task Force detectives on Tuesday charged Rashad J. J.B. Byrd, 37, of Rochester, with felony third-degree criminal possession of crack cocaine with intent to sell following a vehicle stop on Route 37 in Ogdensburg.
Detectives said they stopped Mr. Byrd after suspicious activity throughout the city where he was making several stops before they pulled him over on his way out of town.
Detectives said the bust was part of a crack cocaine distribution investigation and that they recovered $800 worth of crack cocaine in Mr. Byrds drivers side door.
Probably when he came into the city he had more in value, one detective said. He was definitely on the lower-end of it.
We see vehicles from out of the area and it is an investigation thing we have done in the past and we have been successful and we continue to be successful, the detective said.
The investigation is continuing and more arrests are expected, police said.
Mr. Byrd was arraigned in Oswegatchie Town Court and was taken to St. Lawrence County jail, Canton, where he was being held without bail.
Detectives were assisted by task force members from the state police, the Ogdensburg and Gouverneur police departments and Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
