C-P nets NAC East Division basketball sweep over N-N

NORFOLK - The Colton-Pierrepont Central varsity boys and girls basketball teams claimed an NAC East Division sweep on the road over Norwood-Norfolk on Friday.

BOYS GAME

C-P 34, N-N 27: Both teams got off a good starts as the Colts worked their way to a 15-10 lead by the end of the first quarter and managed to hold off the Flyers the rest of the night for their first East Division win of the season.

Riley Doyle, Zach Farr and Ethan Knight netted eight points apiece in a balanced offensive effort for the Colts (2-6, 1-4). Scott Boyce added seven points toward the winning effort and Mark Dumas chipped in a free throw.

Devon Guyette led all scorers with 12 points for the Flyers (0-6, 0-5). Ryan Fullerton, Kyle Steenberg and Dustin Fisher, who anchored the rebounding effort for N-N, all finished with four points while Garrett Waite accounted for the other three.

GIRLS GAME

C-P 46, N-N 40: No further details were provided by the N-N coaching staff.

PETTY TOURNAMENT

In other NAC girls basketball action on Friday, host Canton secured a 65-26 Central victory over Potsdam in the only game played in the first round of the Don Petty Memorial Tournament. The Edwards-Knox vs Hermon-DeKalb was cancelled. E-K and Potsdam will play a 3:30 p.m. consolation game and Canton will face Hermon-DeKalb at 6 and 7:30 p.m. in the junior varsity and championship games of the tournament tonight. Canton broke away from Potsdam with a 20-4 second quarter runs where six different players scored.

“We found our stride in the second quarter and pulled away,” said Canton Coach Mike Meyers.

Tori Daley led a balanced Canton offense with 17 points and went 7-8 from the free throw line to lead a 15-18 composite effort for the Bears who received 14 points with two threes from Natalie DiSalvo and 11 points from Rachel Sanderson. Kali Frank netted two threes scoring eight points.

Sarah Vivlamore and Bre Sapp scored 10 and nine points respectively for Potsdam followed by Amanda Peterson with three and Katherine Blanchard with two. Courtney DiTullio and Hannah Yaketta closed out the Lady Sandstoner scoresheet with one free throw each.

OTHER GAMES

Other games involving NAC girls basketball teams on Friday saw Heuvelton gain a 60-39 West Division win on the road over Hammond while OFA dropped a 56-44 non-league decision at Carthage Central.

A non-league boys basketball matchup on Friday had Chateaugay falling to Beekmantown 49-44.
