CARTHAGE The Carthage Central School District will hold two public forums to discuss the proposed budget for the 2014-15 school year. The purpose is to allow residents to provide input into the budget development process. Once the budget is adopted in April, changes no longer are possible. In the past, a budget committee consisting of community members and district officials was formed to review the budget. This year the budget committee is being replaced by the forums. The forums provide an opportunity for more public input.
The first forum will give an overview of the budget components at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the middle school cafeteria. The focus will be the athletic budget. The second forum will be at 6 p.m. Jan. 22 in the middle school cafeteria. The focus will be the maintenance and transportation portions of the budget. Athletics, maintenance and transportation were selected specifically for the forums because of the high interest in these areas of the budget. Input on other budget areas is welcome.
A public hearing will be held at 6 p.m. May 13 in the high school for presentation of the final proposed budget. The budget vote will take place from noon to 9 p.m. May 20 at the high school library.
