HS roundup: Carthage upends Watertown in volleyball

Carly Sullivan provided 18 service points and 12 assists as the Carthage volleyball team beat host Watertown 25-18, 25-18, 24-26, 25-4 in a Frontier League “A” Division matchup on Tuesday.

Cassie Birth added 11 digs and eight kills and Mackenzie Kidder supplied six kills for the Comets (4-0). Marissa Ixtlahuac registered five blocks.

Kaety Hanlin paced the Cyclones (2-2) with 20 digs and Maggie Finster collected 14 assists and three kills.

BOYS BASKETBALL

INDIAN RIVER 53, GENERAL BROWN 42

Shelton Williams’s game-high 17 points helped the Warriors earn a FL crossover win in Philadelphia.

Danny Angelo added 13 points and five steals for Indian River (3-1), which had 16 steals. Cole Johnson paced General Brown (1-4) with 11 points.

CARTHAGE 78, LOWVILLE 44

Andrew Smith led four players in double figures with 17 points as the Comets earned the crossover win at Lowville.

Peyton McLaurin contributed 12 points, Jake Redmore 11 and Walter Jeter 10 for Carthage (3-0). Kyle Malik of Lowville (0-3) led all scorers with 23 points.

LAFARGEVILLE 51, ALEXANDRIA 36

Matt Valin recorded a double-double, scoring 13 points and grabbing 23 rebounds, to spark the Red Knights to the home “D’’ Division win over the Purple Ghosts.

Tavis Anderson contributed 13 points and six steals for LaFargeville (1-3). Ryan Tebo’s 15 points paced the Purple Ghosts (0-4).

GIRLS BASKETBALL

INDIAN RIVER 35, GENERAL BROWN 25

Emma Bonk contributed 11 points, nine rebounds, seven blocks and four steals to help carry the Warriors to a crossover win over the Lions in Dexter.

Sarah Mattingly scored 10 points for Indian River (3-1). Rhea Pitkin scored seven points for General Brown (3-2, 2-2).

CANTON 100, POTSDAM 19

Tori Daley scored 24 points as Canton crushed host Potsdam in an Northern Athletic Conference Central Division game.

Kali Frank scored 15 points for the Golden Bears (2-1, 2-0). Rachel Sanderson and Natalie DiSalvo each added 14 points. Alexis Peterson scored 10 points to lead Potsdam (1-3, 0-2).

SALMON RIVER 59, MASSENA 50

Salmon River (2-0) outscored the Red Raiders 35-23 in the second half to win a Central Division game in Massena.

Jaden Mitchell scored 23 points for the Shamrocks, and Taylor Francis scored 22 points. Samantha Villnave led Massena (1-1) with 18 points and 15 rebounds, and Bailie Young scored 14 points.

MALONE 67, GOUVERNEUR 22

Katie Lamica scored 12 points to lead Malone (2-0) past the Wildcats in a Central Division game in Gouverneur.

Meghan O’Connor scored 11 points for Malone. Danielle Bullock scored eight points to lead the Wildcats (1-2, 0-2).

EDWARDS-KNOX 39, HARRISVILLE 38

Arael Scott scored four points late, leading Edwards-Knox (1-3, 1-2) past the Pirates in a West Division game in Harrisville.

Mackenzie Frary led the Cougars with 11 points and Jadilynn Bullock scored 10. Courtney LaBeau scored eight for the Pirates (1-3, 0-2).

COLTON-PIERREPONT 46, TUPPER LAKE 30

Morgan Doyle scored 27 points to lift Colton-Pierrepont (1-2, 1-1) past the Lumberjacks in an East Division game in Tupper Lake. Katie Zurek scored 14 points to lead Tupper Lake (0-4, 0-2).

CHATEAUGAY 43, BRUSHTON-MOIRA 25

Brianna Cook scored 13 points to lead Chateaugay (1-1, 1-0) past the Panthers (1-1) in an East Division game in Brushton.

BOYS SWIMMING

LOWVILLE 51, GOUVERNEUR 43

Collin Stewart and Scott Bingle finished with the fastest time in two events apiece, leading the Red Raiders past the Wildcats (2-1) in a FL “B” Division meet at Lowville.

Stewart won the 100-yard butterfly and 200 individual medley, while Bingle claimed the 500 freestyle and the 100 backstroke, which was exhibitioned by Lowville (3-0).

WATERTOWN 105, CARTHAGE 55

Michael Netto and Andrew Saunders each captured two individual events, leading the Cyclones past the Comets in an “A” Division meet in Carthage.

Saunders won the 200 and 500 freestyles, and Netto claimed the 200 IM and 100 free while participating in the 200 medley and 400 free relay victories for Watertown (3-0). Skyler Gianelli won the diving for Carthage (0-3).

WRESTLING

INDIAN RIVER 58, IHC 20

The Warriors won six matches by pin to capture a “A” Division victory over the Cavaliers (0-1) in Philadelphia.

Tucker Amato (106 pounds), Damian Lynch (132), Nick Toutant (138), Dylan Crowder (160), Sonny McPherson (182) and Andrew Davis (195) recorded pins for Indian River (2-0). IHC’s Cyrus Beckman (152) was a technical fall winner.

GOUVERNEUR 78, MALONE 6

Gouverneur used three pins to help defeat the Huskies (0-2) in an NAC match in Malone. Derick Stowell (120), Daniel Mullin (126) and Joey Love (152) recorded pins for Gouverneur (1-0).

MASSENA 68, CANTON 18

Massena recorded eight pins to defeat the Golden Bears in the season-opener for both squads in Canton.

Austin Amo (145), Quinton Colter (152), Hunter Perrine (170), Nolan Terrance (285), Brian Flourde (99), Skyler Cameron (120), Michael Brown (132) and Jesse Patraw (138) won by pin for Massena.
