Winning matches in every possible way the OFA wrestling team opened its Northern Conference season with a 78-6 win over Malone on Wednesday.
The Blue Devils used a full lineup to claim five forfeits on the night, posted five pins and one technical fall, defended leads, came from behind and took one matchup in overtime.
This is definitely the best lineup I have coached here. We have a lot of very good wrestlers who work hard, said OFA Coach Bill Mitchell who will lead his team to the Saranac Central Tournament on Saturday.
And we will get stronger after December when the weight classes change and we can move a few people around.
The Devils showed excellent movement and technique throughout Wednesdays match where Jordan McCormick (195) recorded a 24-second fall over Paul Gobin after Nate Murdock (170) and Tyler Eaton (182) received forfeits.
Gurjot Grewal (220), Will Pearson (285) and Cordell David (99) received forfeits followed by pins by Zach Roberts (106) in 51 seconds over Hannah Garneau and Tanner LaPiene (113) in 5:25 over Cameron Searles.
Austin Lalonde (120) accounted for the overtime win as he recorded a spinning takedown over James Hubbard who gained a 10-10 tie with a near-fall at the buzzer of regulation.
Rounding out the OFA pins were: Brody Sheppard (126) who stopped Travis Beach at 4:46, Glynn Breen (145) who gained a 21-4 technical fall over Fernando Hinojosa, and Bailey Phelps (152) who stopped Dakota Cornell at 3:26.
Devil decisions came from Josh Wangler over Austin Learned 5-3 at 132 and Adam Rickett over Zach Simmons 11-5 at 138.
Malone standout Jamiel Stapleton accounted for Malones points in a duel of sectional champions. Stapleton recorded a fall over Cody Allen-David with 33 seconds remaining in the 160-pound bout.
In modified action Don Baker led OFA with a pair of pins, Jack Cote recorded a pin and a 10-8 decision, Jake Kennedy secured a pin and Kaleb Legault won by decision 10-6.
