Canton Girls Enjoy 2-0 Start

OSWEGO - Canton unable to hold an early 2-0 lead before regrouping the score the last three goals of the game to defeat Oswego 5-2 and secure a 2-0 start to the Upstate Girls Hockey League on Tuesday.

Margret Troiano opened the scoring and a hat trick performance at the 3:17 mark assisted by Natalie Giglio and Samantha Mace. Giglio made it 2-0 with 6:12 left in the first period before the Buccaneers pulled even on back-to-back goals by Allison Rogers.

Troiano put Canton back on top to stay when she finished off a play set up by Blake Orosz with 1:44 left in the middle frame.

Troiano made it 4-2 with an unassisted goal just 47 seconds into the third period before Angelina Vecchio closed out the scoring with 5:15 remaining assisted by Mary Kait Mace and Kelly Copeland.

Elizabeth Burke had 18 saves in the winning effort.

Beekmantown 8 -0 SLC 0: In other games on Tuesday Beekmantown downed St. Lawrence Central 8-0 when Brittany Miner and Madison Beauchemin connected for goals just 12 seconds apart in the fifth minute of the game. Holly Zeldenrust stood tall working the SLC crease for 41 saves.

WEDNESDAY GAMES

The Potsdam Central and Massena Central girls hockey teams pulled away to shutout wins at their home rinks on Wednesday.

Potsdam 7, Saranac Lake 0: Jayden Young got the only goal Potsdam would need at the 3:10 mark when she shoveled home the rebound of a shot from the top of the slot by Kalie Grant. Junior Kelsey Green also earned an assist on the play. Megan Plumb made it 2-0 just 13 seconds later converting on a long rush up the left wing after taking lead pass from freshman Payton Warden.

Sophomore Paige McCabe netted the third Potsdam goal at the 7:43 mark assisted by Green and Young.

Massena 5, Salmon River 0: Bailey Dillabough struck for the eventual game-winner at the 4:48 mark from Molly O’Connell and Bailey Thomas before Mia Jermano connected just 57 seconds later assisted by Thomas and Emily Wilmshurst.

Maddi Dillabough made 10 saves backstopping the shutout while Becca Leroux stood tall working the Salmon River crease for 39 stops.
