LOWVILLE — Lewis County legislators voted Tuesday night to authorize $45,000 to be spent toward the development and marketing of a website and applications promoting tourism and recreation.

Frank J. Pace, senior planner with Lewis County Department of Economic Development and Planning, described the planned website as “a one-stop click.”

The site itself will be multi-layered, with the Lewis County Chamber of Commerce as the vehicle to direct Internet traffic.

“It will be designed to market the entire county,” said Mr. Pace.

It will contain information for those wanting to visit, move to or open business in the county.

Two applications, expected to be complete by next summer, will focus on recreation.

The first will be a downloadable version of the county’s all-terrain vehicle trail map, and the second will be the snowmobile trail map.

Both applications will be usable without cell service, as they can also be accessible via satellite.

With many places on Tug Hill with limited cellphone coverage, Mr. Pace said the applications will be very helpful.

The resolution, introduced by legislator Richard C. Lucas, R-Barnes Corners, stated a vendor had not yet been chosen to develop the website or applications.

Mr. Lucas said while additional incidental costs, such as updates and maintenance, may follow, the $45,000 cost should cover a majority of the creation and marketing.
