LOWVILLE — The search is on, again, for a Lewis County manager.

Since the earlier-than-expected retirement of County Manager David H. Pendergast in April and unsuccessful attempt at appointing a successor, Legislative Chairman Michael A. Tabolt, R-Croghan, has filled the role.

His experience in the position, he said, “makes me more conscious of things. I’m looking forward to hiring a new person, but I wouldn’t relinquish the position to just anyone.”

While the job description remains the same as before he filled in, Mr. Tabolt said, “I’ll be looking for someone who is appreciative of our dedicated workforce and the taxpayers that fund our programs. It’s more than day-to-day business. We need someone creative that makes good things happen in Lewis County.”

Teresa K. Clark, clerk of the board of legislators, said the county created the manager’s position by local law in 1987. Prior to the law, county departments were overseen solely by department heads.

Applications will be accepted until Jan. 3 and reviewed by the new board of legislators.
