MORRISTOWN – Coach Rich Rupert begins his second season at the helm of the Morristown Girls Basketball program and likes his team’s progress from last year.

“One of the biggest things we did last year was teaching the basic fundamentals. This year. We have those basics pretty down and right now we are just growing on them,” said Rupert whose team opens play at the Morristown Green Rockets Turkey Tip Off Basketball Tournament sponsored by the school’s booster club on Friday with Lyme.

“We only have seven girls playing varsity. But numbers are good at the JV level (nine) and modified level (18) so that’s promising. But the seven girls we have are very solid.”

Senior point guard Jordan Tully returns to the team along with junior Sam Green guard, sophomore forwards Taylor Piercey and Jessica Geddes and junior forward Mackenzie Barse.

Liz Troiano who played at the modified level and Micaela Roberts are two newcomers.

“Liz is a good athlete and has picked up the sport well after not playing for two years. Teams are going to be surprised on our conditioning. And we’ve improved a lot on offense and defense from a year ago. We’re still have a lot of improvement but I like what I’ve seen so far,” said Rupert who will be assisted by his brother Scott and nephew Andrew Rupert who also work with junior varsity and modified teams.
