Massachusetts woman sentenced for transporting illegal alien

ALBANY - A Springfield, Massachusetts woman was sentenced to time served and five months of home detention Tuesday for transporting an illegal alien from the St. Regis Mohawk Reservation.

Trudian Simmonds, 31, was sentenced to seven days she had served and five months of home detention during an appearance before United Sates District Court Judge Mae A. D’Agostino.

Simmonds, who was foundguilty on May 22following a three-day jury trial, will serve the five months of homedetention during two years of supervised release.

According to a release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Simmonds entered the United States alone from Canada on Aug. 9, 2012 at theMassena port of entry and then drove to a parking lot on the St. Regis Mohawk Reservation, where she picked up a Jamaican citizen who had illegally entered the United Statesfrom Canada earlier that day.

Simmonds was transporting the man away from the border areawhen she was stopped and arrested by Border Patrol agents.

The case was investigated by the U.S. Border Patrol, Massena.
