FORT DRUM — Post officials reported that they restored the Military Mountaineers statue to its base Thursday, about a week after it was knocked off its base by high winds.

The statue was downed about midnight Nov. 6 when winds tore loose a tent that was set up for a Veterans Day ceremony, and it was blown into the statue.

The 18-foot-tall, 1,800-pound statue landed in a pile of mulch that softened its fall and prevented damage.

The monument, created by Boulder, Colo., sculptor Susan Grant Raymond, was unveiled on post in 1991.
