CANTON — A SUNY Canton student is in St. Lawrence County jail after a search of his dorm Thursday uncovered drugs, paraphernalia and thousands of dollars, according to the St. Lawrence County Drug Task Force.

Nasir M. Cisse, 21, Manhattan, is charged with felony counts of third-degree criminal sale of marijuana and fifth-degree criminal possession of marijuana and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation.

Members of the task force said Mr. Cisse’s arrest at 11:30 a.m. came after an investigation into his alleged sale and possession of marijuana in the village.

“We set up confidential informants for the controlled purchases,” said Canton Police Officer Christopher Flint, a task force member. “We went to do an arrest on a sale that had happened during the investigation, and when we got to his door we smelled marijuana.”

A search warrant for Mr. Cisse’s dorm room was issued by Pierrepont Town Justice Robert G. Camp, which led the task force to uncover $13,000 in U.S. currency, approximately 20 grams of marijuana and digital scales.

Mr. Cisse was arraigned in Town Court by Justice Cathleen E. O’Horo and was sent to jail with bail set at $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond.

He is scheduled to return to court Nov. 20.

The Drug Task Force consists of Canton police, Potsdam police, SUNY Canton police, SUNY Potsdam police and members of the St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department.
